Glossary of Indicators

Emissions

CO2e (CO2 Equivalent)

Unit of measurement used to compare emissions of various greenhouse gases based on their global warming potential, by converting amounts of other gases into the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide.

Methodology

Water Footprint

Indicator measuring the total volume of freshwater used directly and indirectly to produce the goods and services of a company or country.

Regulation

Carbon Intensity

Ratio between greenhouse gas emissions produced and a unit of output (often revenue for a company or GDP for a country). This allows for comparison of ecological efficiency beyond the size of the entity.

Scopes

Scope 1, 2 and 3

Emission categories defined by the GHG Protocol. Scope 1: direct emissions. Scope 2: indirect emissions related to energy. Scope 3: all other indirect emissions (value chain).
